Carol Maurice
Human Resource Director
I joined SMBSC in December 1988,as the receptionist with responsibilities increasing to planning and publishing the company newsletter,
coordinating the hiring function and conducting interviews and employee orientations for the factory and seasonal positions as well as enrolling employees in our benefits from health and dental insurance
to the 401k plan. I continued to learn about the Cooperative and sat in on my first negotiations in 1990, which opened another opportunity for me to learn about the collective bargaining agreement.
In addition to various managers investing in me, I was given the opportunity to continue to develop myself by becoming certified as a Human Resource Generalist and later obtaining a Professional in
Human Resource certification from the Society of Human Resource Management. With the education, continued on the job training and support of managers and co-workers, it brought more opportunities
within the Cooperative and I later pursued my Bachelors of Science Degree in Business. The Cooperative offers an excellent educational aid policy that offsets the tuition and expenses and with the
online courses, it was an excellent opportunity to prepare me for my next role with the Cooperative, Human Resource Director.
