On September 15, 1975, Kevin Herberg joined SMBSC in the boiler house. His mechanical aptitude coupled with his education in mechanical engineering from Southwest Minnesota State University proved to be an asset for a lifelong career. He transferred to a special chemist position, where he analyzed sugar using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
Toward the end of his career, Kevin accepted a new challenge as a machinist. As a machinist, Kevin utilized tools to measure and fabricate machine parts, fitted and assembled machined parts and performed routine maintenance on shop equipment by inspecting it. In addition to performing his job, Kevin was a member of our Code Blue Team, providing first aid treatment when necessary.
As Kevin reflected on some of the biggest changes at the Cooperative, he stated, life is easier thanks to computerization and automation. This helped streamline processes and provided a continued opportunity for learning.
With almost 40 years of service, Kevin is now looking forward to a new career change: retirement. In addition to spending time with Linda, his wife, Kevin will devote his energy to finding or building a new house. A perfect fit to a new life of retirement. He will also have more time to give to his two grandchildren.
Congratulations, Kevin. We wish you the best of luck, and we hope that you enjoy the open road to retirement and new adventures in your little red corvette!
