The Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative (SMBSC), our growers and our employees share a deep commitment to supporting our community. We recognize the strength of our
cooperative depends on a strong and healthy community. We value the contributions many organizations make to helping our community, and we support their work by actively
participating in events and providing financial and in-kind support.
SMBSC is dedicated to helping those fighting cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society (ACS), an organization working to find a cure for cancer and help those living
with cancer manage day-to-day living. SMBSC has supported the ACS over many years to bring awareness and financial support to this important community initiative.
SMBSC sponsors the Walking Taco Food Wagon at the Renville County Relay for Life held in August. The money donated, together with donations made by various sugar beet
seed companies, cover all expenses so 100% of the money raised goes directly to the ACS. SMBSC employees and their families volunteer time to coordinate this very
successful annual event. Over the year, these employees also coordinate meals to raise additional funds.
- SMBSC participates in “Ride for a Cure.” The 1st annual employee event was held in 2011.

local town celebrations. SMBSC employees and their families volunteer to ride on the Cooperative’s float to distribute gifts and treats to the community.
Annual monetary donations from the Employee Benefit Fund provide bus rides to local residents for medical appointments who are unable to pay.
During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, SMBSC provides meals to those in need through the Christian Community Outreach Center. Financial donations are made by the
Employee Benefit Fund to cover expenses for a turkey dinner for those unable to prepare or afford their own holiday meal.
